Nevis Banks
Offshore banking business in Nevis may only be carried out under a licence issued under the Nevis Offshore Banking Ordinance 1996. The minimum authorized capital of a bank must be US$2m of which US$1m must be deposited into an account at the Eastern Caribbean Bank which account must be maintained by the Permanent Secretary of the Nevis Ministry of Finance.
Applications for offshore banking licences are firstly considered by the Nevis Central Bank which investigates the character and banking experience of the proposed shareholders and directors and the viability of the proposed banking operations. The Central Bank then makes a recommendation to the Minister of Finance as to whether a licence should or should not be granted.
Profits from offshore banking operations are subject to tax in Nevis at a top rate of 2.5%.
